To qualify for a Canadian study permit you must choose the right program to study.
Choosing the right program to study in Canada is one of the most crucial factors in a visa officer’s decision when approving a Canadian study permit. When choosing a program, it’s best to choose a program that aligns with your work experience and educational history.
For instance, if you have a degree or work experience in Mechanical Engineering and you decide to pursue a nursing program. In that case, the visa officer might deny you on the basis that they do not see how the program will benefit you based on previous qualification and work experience. As such, it is best to choose a program that aligns with your previous work history or qualifications; this will give you a better opportunity for approval. Nonetheless, you have the freedom to choose any program of your choice once you are able to explain to the visa officer, why you choose this program and how it will benefit you in your future endeavors.
Duration of study
When choosing a program, you must consider the duration of the program and your educational expenses. The Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has advised that you show at least one (1) years’ worth of financing for your tuition and living expenses, which is CAD $10,000.
To put it more direct, if you do not have the money to cover your tuition and living expenses for a two (2) or three (3) year program, it is best to choose a program that is eight (8) months to one (1) year in tenure for a better chance of approval. However, you are able to apply for the program of your choice, regardless of the length of study once you can prove to the visa officer that you are financially able to support yourself while studying in Canada.
